Articles of note
Some interesting or important articles that I wanted to spread around:

Come on baby, won't you show some class? -- An interesting article on basic primate sexual behavior, and how differences in economic class lead to different sexual survival modes: how our prejudices come to be, how exclusive sexual rights benefit certain groups and how demonizing other sexual practices satisfies different biological impulses. One of the most interesting parts of the article is when she discusses how being able to wear sexually provocative clothing gives women adjustable sexuality, which is a wonderful mechanism of control the woman can hold.

Questioning Objectification -- Same author as above. Another really brilliant argument for why desire and objectification are not the same thing. She discusses how lumping desire and objectification together makes consent and non-consent the same thing, which takes away a woman's right and ability to chose for herself what she wants. My roommate linked me to this when my brain was exploding over that ridiculously stupid Dworkian "feminist"(sorry, but reducing women to the mental capacity of children and the mentally handicapped, in terms of consent, is not feminism) fandom post, where the OP was calling Joss Whedon a rapist. To review: I got pissed off at an idiot claiming to be a feminist, so my roommate went out and found me an AWESOME feminist article to make me feel better. I have the best roommate <33

My Spring Weekend Nightmare -- A much more depressing article about one(very courageous, strong) college woman's experience with sexual assault and mob mentality. It paints a horrifying picture, one that's difficult to read.

Obama Casts his Spell -- An article [info]baileytc linked me when I was having voter angst, and it perfectly describes my worries about Senator Obama. I'm sure by now everyone is tired of this particular political struggle. Both of the candidates are acting like imbiciles. To quote a CNN reporter: "Once we had an embarrassment of riches. Now we just have an embarrassment."

Why I Let My 9-Year-Old Ride the Subway Alone -- Written by a parent(obviously) who understands that one day children become adults, and to become a responsible adult, one needs to be trusted, to learn how to take care of oneself, and to feel the pride of accomplishment. Modern day parents are far too over protective, and I witnessed the very real results of that at my college(the high school I went to sought the ideal of personal responsibility -- all the students there worked hard, looked after themselves, and were competant human beings; going to college was a shocking experience, finding out that everyone in the "real world" is a goddamned idiot). I definitely know some parents who should take something away from this article -- unfortunately none of them are really computer users, and thus don't read the internet.
